Committees & Activities
There are many ways to be part of the LTE PTO – from chairing or coordinating a committee or event to simply being available to volunteer and help out from time-to-time. Contact the PTO Volunteer Coordinator to learn more. Listed below are activities and events at LTE which receive support from the PTO.
- Author Visit (Fall): Meet with librarian to plan visit of author, coordinate pre-visit book sale and/or lunchtime sale during week of visit, assist author as needed.
- Back to School Supplies (Spring & Summer): Meet with teachers to determine supply lists, purchase supplies, plan and organize the Back to School Store in August– including a schedule of volunteers to help deliver pre-packaged orders to the designated classrooms.
- Book Room (Ongoing): Keep book room organized, process new books, pull books requested by teachers, and re-shelve books as needed.
- Book Fair (Fall/Spring): Work with teachers, staff and book company to schedule, organize, and provide volunteers for the Book Fair.
- Caring/Special Needs (Ongoing): Help with programs involving students with different or special needs; acts as PTO liaison with school guidance counselor.
- COSI on Wheels (Winter): Organize the COSI visit, including the assemblies as well as the hands-on science presentations for students, which require parent volunteers.
- Directory (Fall): Coordinate production of a print or online version of a student directory containing contact information for students, class lists, and pertinent PTO information.
- Donuts for Dads ( Spring): Organize event and coordinate delivery of donuts and beverages; send home pre-sale order forms and recruit volunteers to help at the event.
- Enrichment Day (Spring): This program offers a variety of hands-on classes for students. The committee selects classes and finds instructors among parents, community members, and professionals and coordinates volunteers to assist in classes.
- Fall Fundraiser (Early Fall): Coordinate and distribute information for the PTO’s biggest fundraiser; collect monies raised and recruit volunteers to work the event (could be a walk-a-thon, fitness festival – a fundraiser where
- parents can just “write a check” to help the school.
Family Pizza Night (Winter): Plan a dinner and activities for this community building night; teachers and staff volunteer as well to make this a special night for the students; can include crafts, teacher raffle baskets, silent auction, cake walk, carnival games, Bingo, etc.
- Field Day (Spring): Work with P.E. teacher to plan relays, games, and other outdoor fun during the last month of school; coordinate volunteers, activities, refreshments, and schedule.
First Days of School (First week of school): Welcome children as they arrive at school (especially K & 1st graders) and help direct them from the bus and parent drop-off areas to their classrooms.
- Kindergarten Screening (Late Spring): Coordinate with school to set up date, time and place for screening. Arrange for volunteers to help LTE secretary during the screening.
- Last Day of Elementary School (5th Grade only): Plan and organize fun end of year party for 5th graders leaving elementary school.
- Library Helpers (Ongoing): Assist librarian with day to day activities (i.e. shelving books, helping check books in and out, work on special projects, etc.).
- Logo Wear (Ongoing): Select merchandise, distribute information/order forms, place and fill orders, and organize volunteers to sell logo wear at various school functions.
- Nominating Committee (Spring): Notify members of open vacancies for PTO officers and committee chairs for the following school year; and ultimately prepare ballot for election.
- Party Coordinator (Ongoing): Liaison to administration for organizing parents to volunteer in classrooms, to assist specials teachers, and to help with classroom parties (fall, winter, Valentine, and last day of school).
- Pioneer Day (3rd Grade only): Organize a committee to plan and produce the full day event in May at Liberty Barn Church.
- Product Rewards (Ongoing): Distribute info to families about easy ways for LTE to earn money or products by shopping at particular stores or buying certain products (Box Tops, Campbell Labels for Education, Kroger, Giant Eagle, Target, Tyson, Juice pouches, etc.)
- School Beautification (Ongoing): Update entrance to building with seasonal items.
- School Sign (Ongoing): Update sign on an as needed basis (generally once every 3-4 weeks) with events and dates provided by PTO President and school administration.
- Spring Fundraiser: Work with selected vendor to organize fundraiser for sale of goods (candles, magazines, cups, stationery, etc); distribute materials to students and manage the delivery of the items; and recruit volunteers to help with all aspects of this event.
- Staff Appreciation Dinners/Luncheon (Fall/Spring): Organize staff dinners for four conference nights and then a luncheon in late spring to recognize teachers and staff; coordinate donation of food, beverages, paper products, etc. and set up, serve, and clean up.
- Summer Brain Games (Late Spring/Early Fall): Distribute booklets to students and parents; order awards and help staff as needed with the awards ceremony in the fall.
- Talent Show (Late Winter/Early Spring): Preview acts, schedule acts, conduct dress rehearsal, organize volunteers, set-up, work event and clean up.
- VIP Training (Ongoing): Update and maintain training materials; ensure all volunteers at LTE either attend a training session or review the materials online.
